In the meantime, while inaugurating a project worth crores of rupees related to road infrastructure in Lucknow, Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also announced the construction of this expressway in Uttar Pradesh. Why is this expressway special?
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that by 2024, Uttar Pradesh will receive a gift of projects worth 5 lakh crore rupees. This includes the construction of a 6-lane Greenfield Expressway from Gorakhpur to Siliguri at a cost of 25,000 crore rupees. Similarly, a Greenfield Expressway from Gorakhpur to Shamli, costing 35,000 crore rupees, is also planned, and the tenders for it will be issued soon.

Starting from Gogawan Jalalpur in Shamli district, the expressway will pass through Gorakhpur. It will traverse the districts of Ayodhya, Sant Kabir Nagar, Barabanki, Gonda, Basti, Bahraich, Lucknow, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Badaun, Bareilly, Rampur, Moradabad, Sambhal, Amroha, Bijnor, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur.

The expressway will be connected to the Delhi-Dehradun Greenfield Expressway at the Butaraada Cross Junction in Shamli. The construction work of the Greenfield Economic Corridor Expressway from Shamli to Ambala in Haryana is already in progress. Furthermore, preparations are being made to connect Gorakhpur to Siliguri as well.
